Diseases in the Respiratory System
Two of the main diseases that effect the Respiratory System  are Asthma and Bronchitis.


Asthma is a disease that effects millions of people world wide. When a person has asthma they suffer from asthma attacks.During these attacks the person finds it hard to breath and they often panic from the suffocating feeling.


​​Asthma- the narrowing of the bronchial airways making it difficult to breath.


Causes- Asthma can be caused by ​​prolonged exposure to air pollutants, allergens, or                      certain drugs.
 
Symptoms- ​​ Coughing, wheezing, tightness or pain in the chest and shortness of breath.

Treatment-​​ Bronchodilators administered through an inhaler




Bronchitis is a less serious disease that usually follows a cold when the bodies immune system is weakened. Although bronchitis does not usually do lasting damage to a person it can still lead to more serious things like 



​​​Bronchitis- the swelling of the bronchial tubes which causes mucus to be                                                 produced pneumonia .


​Causes- viruses or bacteria that have been inhaled


Symptoms-low fever, dry hacking cough, coughing up mucus

Treatment-​​​​​​​​​​​drinking lots of fluids, cough drops and cough medicine
