Respiratory System
Parts of the Respiratory System and their functions
Parts of the system include nose, mouth, trachea, lung, bronchi, and alveoli
Mouth- allows air to enter the respiratory system
Nose- allows air to enter the respiratory system
Trachea-a tube that leads the air in to the lungs
Lungs- Serve as pumps that move the oxygen in and out of the body and the lungs store oxygen
Bronchi- Tubes that lead the air into and out of the lungs
Alveoli- The alveoli have capillaries in them so they can easily diffuse oxygen into the blood and carbon dioxide out of the blood.
Breathing begins
The Diaphragm pushes on the lungs making them expand
Air enters the body through the nose and the mouth
Air flows down the trachea into the lungs
Air enters the bronchi
Air travels along the bronchi into the alveoli
The oxygen diffuses into the capillaries surrounding the alveoli
The oxygen is transported all over the body
Exhaling begins
The Diaphragm pull the lungs down making them contract
Carbon Dioxide diffuses from the capillaries into the alveoli
The carbon dioxide enriched air travels along the bronchi out of the lungs and out of the body through the mouth and nose
The process is completed 20 times a minute
